Poems for Grief and Loss
Those special memories of you, will always bring a smile
if only I could have you back, for just a little while
Then we could sit and talk again just like we used to do
you always meant so very much and always will do too
The fact you’re no longer here will always cause me pain
but you’re forever in my heart, until we meet again

And when great souls die,
after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
irregularly. Spaces fill
with a kind of
soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
better. For they existed.

Wish I could go back to the day
When angels came and took you away
I wanted to hold your hand so tight
Kiss you gently and say goodnight
and then just before you go you had to go
I would tell you how much I love you so
I don’t know how, I don’t know why
I never got the change to say goodbye

It’s Not the End of the Trail
It’s not the end of trail for me;
I’ve just traveled on, you see.
Up ahead where greener pastures grow
And cool water streams dance as they flow.
Flowers in bloom of every sort and kind,
Colors more vivid than I’ve left behind,
Family and friends I haven’t seen in years,
Hugs and handshakes and no more tears.
They’ve welcomed me home here today,
A place of peace for me to stay.
They say it’s my home for eternity;
No, it’s not the end of the trail for me.

In a Monastery Garden
Through the misty twilight falling,
Voices from afar are calling
Calling all the weary homeward to their rest.
The evening bell is softly pealing,
While from out the cloisters stealing,
Comes this prayer for mercy, peaceful and so blest.
Hope will bring us its gladness,
Faith shall take away all sadness,
While the gates of day are closing in the West.
Joy will come again with morning,
Shadows pass, but love is dawning,
God is Love, and gives us all Eternal Rest.

Should You Go First
Should you go first and I remain
to walk the road alone,
I’ll live in memories garden dear,
with happy days we’ve known.
In spring I’ll wait for roses red,
when faded, the lilacs blue.
In early fall when brown leaves fall,
I’ll catch a glimpse of you.
Should you go first and I remain,
for battle to be fought.
Each thing you’ve touched along the way
will be a hallowed spot.
I’ll hear your voice, I’ll see your smile,
though blindly I may grope,
The memory of your helping hand
will buoy me on with hope.
Should you go first and I remain,
one thing I’ll have you do:
Walk slowly down that long long path,
for soon I’ll follow you.
I want to know each step you take,
so I may take the same.
For someday down that lonely road
you’ll hear me call your name.

Remember
Ascension
And if I go,
While you’re still here…
Know that I live on,
Vibrating to a different measure
-behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
So you just have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar
Together again,
– Both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
…I will be there.

To My Dearest Family & Friends
To my dearest family and friends, some things I’d like to say
But first of all to let you know, that I arrived okay
That day I had to leave you, when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me, and said I welcome you.
Then God gave me a list of things He wished for me to do,
And foremost on that list of mine, is to watch and care for you.
But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no trees, unless there was some rain.
When you are walking down the street, and you’ve got me on your mind,
I’m walking in your footsteps, only half a step behind.
And when you feel the gentle breeze, or, the wind upon your face,
That’s me giving you a great big hug, or just a soft embrace.
And when it’s time you to go, from that body to be free,
Remember you’re going, you are coming here…to me.

The Home Beyond
We are so sad when
Those we love
Are called to live in
That home above
But why should we grieve
When we say good-bye
And go dwell in
A “cloudless sky?”
For they have but gone
To prepare the way
And we’ll join them again
Some happy day.

Cry not when you think of me
For now my soul flies high and free
Take comfort in knowing there is no more pain
Encircled in the Lords arms I live again
I’ll look down and love you all
But for me there is a greater call
Please don’t stand at my grave and weep
Gaze to the stars and there I’ll be
And someday together we will see
Our love has lasted through eternity
